PhD Stipend in Computer Vision
Job description
Milestone Systems A/S, a Danish headquartered company within the Canon Group, is funding this position. Milestone Systems A/S develops Video Management Software (VMS) and AI-based Video Analytics solutions both on premise and in the cloud. Our VMS is used to record video data from various ranges of surveillance cameras, store it on external hard drives, and retrieve it when needed. Our video analytics are used both in live, for example for access control, and offline scenarios, for example for forensics investigation. We detect objects, track them across one or multiple cameras’ field of view(s), recognize specific (inter-)actions, detect anomalies, etc.
We are also interested in looking at legal and ethical considerations of developing AI.
The candidate must have obtained a Master's degree before starting in the position. The successful candidate will be part of the Milestone Research Program at AAU, and the Visual Analysis and Perception (VAP) lab.

The candidate’s project description should be written on a topic within AI-based video analytics. The candidate should use the project description as an opportunity to show how they write a professional document, starting by a problem statement, a literature review, and concluding with a discussion on candidate’s idea(s) on how to solve the stated problem.

PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Technical Doctoral School of IT and Design in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time.
Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications, the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not.
