At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, a postdoctoral position focused on carbon capture and transportation from a biomass CHP plant is available starting 1 December 2024 or shortly thereafter. The position is available for a period of two years. The Department of Chemistry and Bioscience provides cutting-edge research and teaching in biotechnology, biology, environmental science, chemistry, and chemical engineering. Our research solves important challenges for the benefit of society, and through research-based teaching, we educate independent, collaborative, and solution-oriented bachelors, graduates, and PhDs. The department consists of around 230 employees and enrolled PhD Students, including 55 assistant, associate, and full professors. The researchers at the department conduct internationally competitive research within a range of topics and are involves in the publication of around 250 peer reviewed publications annually. At the department, we have eight high-profile research areas and individual researchers who deliver world-class applied and basic research with a mission-driven approach, and who contribute to the development of new technologies, methods, and new basic insights within natural science and engineering. Job description

This two-year position involves process simulation and integration of a carbon capture process using solid adsorbents. The aim is to reduce energy consumption during the desorption phase through simulation, integration, and optimization. Additionally, the project will explore optimal methods for storing and transporting the captured CO2.

 Competences of the ideal applicant:

  • PhD degree in chemical engineering, energy engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with process simulation, integration, techno-economic analysis(TEA), and optimization
  • Proficiency in process simulation software such as Aspen Plus, Aspen Hysys, or EES
  • Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking abilities
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work across disciplines
  • Capability to work in a structured, systematic manner while maintaining a high degree of independence
  • Integrative and cooperative personality with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluent in English, both written and oral

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
