Job description

Green coding is a set of software development practices used to create programs that consume as little energy as possible. Unfortunately, green coding practices are not in widespread use since they are not well understood, and they are cumbersome and time consuming to apply. In recent years Generative AI has emerged as a powerful tool in code development.

The key question in this project is: Can generative AI be taught to develop green code?

If the answer to this question is positive, generative AI may help reduce the energy consumption from ICT significantly(up to 50%) and the results may even be used to reduce the energy consumed by generative AI significantly.

Requirements:

- PhD in computer science

- Excellent scientific background and publication record

- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team

- Excellent communication skills in English, oral as well as written

- Good software development skills

Advanced experience in one or more of the following areas will be an advantage:

- AI supported programming(e.g. GitHub Copilot)

- Large Language Models(LLM)

- Energy efficient programming techniques

- Compiler construction

- System and Hardware knowledge

Responsibilities:

- Participate in the Teaching AI green coding research project

- Perform excellent scientific research

- Develop research prototypes and conduct experiments

- Publish in leading international conferences and journals

- Participate in activities of the group and the department

Some teaching within the educations offered by the Department of Computer Science can be expected.
