Assistant Professor in Neural Engineering and Neurophysiology (2025-224-06341)

Job description
At Department of Health Science and Technology we conduct research, teaching, and innovation within engineering, biomedicine, sports science, public health, neuroscience, psychology, and physiotherapy to develop sustainable technological solutions. Our mission is to contribute to increased quality of life for the benefit of the individual human being and society.
We take active part in implementing the 2030 vision of the Faculty of Medicine: to become leading within digital health and well-known for doctors and engineers finding solutions together. Our mission is to drive positive societal impact through cutting-edge research and innovation, with a strong focus on digital health. We are dedicated to addressing four grand challenges that shape our vision for a healthier and more sustainable future.
We educate bachelors and Masters of Science within biomedical engineering, medicine, medicine with industrial specialization, biomedical engineering, sports science, public health, and clinical health and technology. Our graduates contribute to setting the agenda for future needs and solutions for increased public health and implementation of new health knowledge and technologies.
Currently, our department has approximately 280 employees, 100 Ph.D.-students enrolled in the Doctoral School in Medicine, Biomedical Science and Technology, and 1,500 students in our bachelors and master’s programs. We hold state of the art research and teachingfacilities.

What are we looking for?
Sensory processing difficulties are common in clinical conditions such as autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD). However, the neural mechanism behind this impairment is not fully understood and a direct measure of these difficulties in unavailable. We are looking for a candidate that will investigate the mechanism behind sensory processing disorders in neurodevelopmental disorders using neural engineering methods with the perspective of translating the obtained results into digital health solutions. Sensory processing anomalies will be investigated in adults and children through recording and analysis of non-invasive measurements of neural activity(EEG) and/or psychophysical assessment. Advanced signal analysis, including e.g. machine learning techniques, should be used for the assessment and evaluation of the obtained information.
Who are you?
You are a committed and motivated candidate:
- With a Ph.D.(or equivalent) in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, neural engineering or similar.
- You can demonstrate significant technical experience with acquisition, processing and interpretation of different types of electrophysiological signals, preferably EEG.
- You have firsthand experience with recruitment and working with children with and without diagnosis.
- You are fluent in English both oral and written.
Candidates who have relevant teaching experience and are fluent in Danish will be preferred.
The Assistant Professor will teach within the different study programs at the Department, incl. Medicine, Medicine with Industrial Specialization and Biomedical Engineering and Informatics. You will be affiliated with the Neural Engineering and Neurophysiology Research group(https://vbn.aau.dk/da/organisations/neural-engineering-and-neurophysiology headed by Prof. Winnie Jensen.
You may obtain further professional information from Associate Professor Sabata Gervasio, e-mail:saba@hst.aau.dk.
The following criteria will apply:
The candidate should have qualifications corresponding to an acquired Ph. D.- degree. We expect that the candidate:
- has published in peer-reviewed journals as the first author of the publication
- has experience with applying for external funding for projects, equipment, travel costs, etc. maybe as main as main applicant(PI) or co-applicant(co-PI). This will be an advantage
- should be able to carry out teaching, exams, and quality assurance- either independently or under supervision of a senior colleague
- has experience with presentation of science, e.g., at conferences or in other relevant forums
- has experience with sharing knowledge through an open science praxis. This will be an advantage
- can work both independently and contribute positively to the teamwork in a research group
The following material must be submitted with the application:
- A motivated text in which the reasons for applying for the position are described
- A curriculum vitae
- Copies of relevant diplomas(Master of Science and PhD), pedagogical education, and continuing education(e.g., within research management). On request, you may be asked for an official English translation
- References/recommendations
- A presentation of your research area or interests and a description of your research plans for the position
- A complete list of publications must be attached and a description of work that you find most relevant
- An overview of your teaching experiences and a description of your most relevant contributions
- An overview of your knowledge dissemination activities and a description of your most relevant contributions
The applications are only to be submitted online by using the"Apply online" button below.
Assessment
The assessment of candidates for the position will be carried out by qualified experts.
Shortlisting will be applied. This means that after the application deadline, the head of the department, with the assistance of the hiring committee, will select the applicants to be assessed. All applicants will be informed whether they have been shortlisted for assessment or not.
